Bruce McLarty

EDUCATION

Graduated in 1975 from Harding Academy in Memphis, Tennessee.

Graduated in 1978 from Harding College with a B.A. in Bible.

Graduated in 1982 from Harding Graduate School of Religion with the M.Th.

MINISTRY EXPERIENCE

Preached for two years during college for the church in Williford, Arkansas.

Preached for the church in Marks, Mississippi from 1980-1982.

Outreach Minister for the Holmes Road church of Christ, 1982-1984.

Missionary in Meru, Kenya, 1984-1985.

Preached for the Collegeside congregation in Cookeville, Tennessee, 1986-1991.

Preached for the College church in Searcy from 1991-2005.

Since August 2005 has served as the Vice President for Spiritual Life and the Dean of the College of Bible and Religion at Harding University.

LECTURESHIPS

Has spoken on the Harding, Freed-Hardeman, Oklahoma Christian, Ohio Valley, Abilene, David Lipscomb, Pepperdine University lectureships, and the Austin Graduate School of Religion’s Sermon Seminar.

WRITING

Has written articles for 21st Century Christian Magazine, Upreach Magazine, Image Magazine, The Gospel Advocate, and Harding’s new Church and Family Magazine.

Wrote chapters in the 1998 Harding Lectureship Book (“You Are A Royal Priesthood”) and the 1999 Freed-Hardeman Lectureship Book (“Trusting in God’s Providence”).

Has written one full-length book, Journey of Faith: Walking with Jesus Through the Gospel of John, which was published in 1997.

Has written a commentary on Paul’s Letter to Philemon for a just-released commentary in the Truth for Today Commentary Series.

AWARDS

In 1999 received the “Outstanding Alumnus Award” from the College of Bible and Religion at Harding University.

PERSONAL

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, May 3, 1957.

Grew up in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

Parents are Durley and Sue McLarty of Cookeville, Tennessee. Has one brother (Karl) and two sisters (Kim and Karen).

Married Ann Hutson (BSN from Harding, class of ‘80) on May 31, 1980. They have two daughters, Charity (26) and Jessica (24).
