The Concert Choir is one of three choral organizations at Harding University. The 100-member choir was organized in the fall of 1988. Members are chosen by audition and this year, 2004, come from 28 states and Canada. Twenty-two are majoring in music, approximately 40 other majors are also represented. The group rehearses five hours per week and maintains an active concert, touring, and recording schedle.
Past performances with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra (ASO) include the Verdi Requiem, Mahler Resurrection Symphony and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. This year the choir will join with the ASO in a concert performance of Puccini's opera "Turandot".
In addition to tours throughout the United States, the choir takes occasional mission tours, including a recent fifth tour of Venezuela.
These six CD's were graciously provided by Dr. Arthur Shearin for our enjoyment and to give you an example of some of the music available. The CDs were converted to MP3 format at a lower quality than the CDs to reduce the file size and thus reduce the download time to your computer. I still enjoy the music at this quality, but better quality music can be obtained from the original recordings which are available in CD and cassette form at the address shown below. Only half of the songs on each CD are shown at one time but periodically I will change to the other half. The choir uses the funds from the sales of these tapes and cassettes to fund tour expenses for the choir. These CDs and cassettes make excellent gifts. Other CDs and cassettes are available and you can obtain that information by sending and email to the address below.
Recordings provide a tangible an lasting source of inspirational music for personal enjoyment, gifts, and ministry. Proceeds from recording sales help fund Christian education in general and choir tour expenses in particular. Harding University Music Department is most grateful for your support of the choir's work.
CDs are priced at $15; cassetts are $10. When two or more recordings are bought, the prices are reduced to $12 and $8.
